Crops are treated with ferrous sulphate heptahydrate (copperas). Copperas is a moist green salt with the consistency of wet snow. It is also known as iron vitriol or green vitriol. It dissolves easily in water and is sprayed to iron-deficient crops where it is promptly absorbed by the plants.
